When teeth develop cavities or other types of minor decay, dental fillings can be used to restore both their appearance and function. Cavities are small holes or voids in the teeth. They are extremely common, and most people will experience at least one cavity at some point. Left untreated, cavities can become severe leading to a root canal infection or tooth loss. For that reason, if you do have a cavity, it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible.
At Premier Dentistry of Philadelphia, we offer our patients tooth-colored fillings to restore and protect teeth that have been damaged by cavities. These restorations look remarkably natural, making it virtually impossible to tell that your tooth ever received a filling. The substance that is used is flexible, yet strong, making it resistant to fractures and breakages. Best of all, it will add to the tooth’s overall strength.
When placing a tooth-colored filling, we will thoroughly clean out the tooth, removing all decay and any existing filling material. We will then apply the composite filling substance to seal off any openings that are present on the surface of the tooth. We will harden the material using a curing light that is designed for this purpose. Finally, the restoration will be polished and shaped to create a natural appearance. After treatment, you will be able to continue with regular brushing and flossing.
